Lotte Kkokalcorn Chips - Honey Butter Flavor (롯데 꼬깔콘 허니버터맛)You may recall that I tried the "original" flavor Kkokalcorn chips a while back - they were basically General Mills Bugles (made under license by Lotte). Today, I've got another variety - this time "honey butter" flavored (not a flavor that General Mills makes). These were certainly more interesting than the plain old originals. I liked 'em. My rating: ★★★★☆

Lotte Cheetos - Bulgogi Flavor (롯데 치토스 불고기맛)Of course I'm familiar with Cheetos snacks in the US. Well, Lotte makes Cheetos in Korea under license from Frito Lay in some rather unusual shapes and flavors, like these bulgogi flavor ones. You'll see on the package they even kept Chester Cheetah as the mascot. You can't buy these in the US; they came straight from Korea. Well, the first thing you notice is that these look nothing like any Cheetos you've ever seen before. They're not orange and are shaped nothing like American Cheetos; they look more like Cheerios. And instead of cheese, you immediately smell beef! Definitely surprising and different. My rating: ★★★☆☆

Lotte Original Pepero (롯데 오리지널 빼빼로)
I had the almond variety a while back; now I've got the original plain chocolate kind. They are okay, but the almond variety I had before was way better. My rating: ★★★☆☆

Crown Potato Waffle Snack (크라운 감자의 품격)These are potato chips of a sort, cooked like miniature waffles. I can't say these impressed me much. They taste like slightly burnt, unsalted potato chips. meh My rating: ★★☆☆☆

Mammos Apple Soda Candy (맘모스 애플소다캔디)These are fizzy hard candies. These are pretty much what you would expect from any similar hard candy. They are sweet with a pleasant apple flavor and just a bit of fizz to them. My rating: ★★★☆☆

Lotte Sand Strawberry (롯데 샌드 딸기)I previously tried the Lotte Sand Black, chocolate Oreo knock-offs; today I've got the strawberry variety. The wafers are somewhat nondescript. While I liked the strawberry centers, overall I found these cookies rather bland and unmemorable. They're not bad, but probably not something I would look for again. The original Sand Black chocolate ones are much better. My rating: ★★★☆☆

Haitai Crunch Ball Crispy Candy (해태 알사탕)These little individually wrapped hard candies are peanut flavored. At first, I really didn't understand what these were about. I sucked on it, like any hard candy. They are sweet, but unremarkable. It wasn't until I crunched one and then everything was made clear. They have small bits of peanuts in them and are basically bite-sized bits of peanut brittle. They are definitely meant to be crunched. I like peanut brittle, so I liked these. My rating: ★★★★☆

Orion Fresh Berry (오리온 후레쉬 베리)
A pair of thin soft cakes with berry-flavored cream sandwiched in between. A bit like a sweet jelly sandwich. Not bad at all. My rating: ★★★☆☆

Doraemon Churros (도라에몽 츄러스)
This rather odd-looking snack consists of a crispy cinnamon pastry stick with a filling. Although I did not previously know this, churros are originally from Iberia (Spain & Portugal) and are quite popular in Latin America, as well as the Philippines (which is likely how they came to Korea). The cinnamon sticks are tasty enough, though I'm not really sure what the filling was; it looked and tasted a bit like a mild cheddar cheese spread. Cinnamon and cheese? Certainly seems an odd flavor pairing, but oddly enough, it kinda works. My rating: ★★★★☆

Haitai Oh! Yes Orange (해태 오예슨 오렌지)I had the "Green Tea" variety of these little chocolate cakes previously. Instead of Green Tea frosting, these have orange frosting inside. Like similar items I've tried previously, I gave these 8 seconds in the microwave, so they would be nice and moist. They can be a bit dry straight out of the package. These were quite similar to the "Green Tea" ones I had before, but the orange filling made for an interesting flavor combo. I liked 'em. My rating: ★★★★☆

Nongshim Bubbling Army-Base Stew Ramyun (농심 보글보글 부대찌개면)Today's snack is a relatively new addition to the countless varieties of Korean ramyun - Army-Base Stew. Actual "Army-Base Stew" ( budae jjigae) is a Korean fusion stew that incorporates various American processed foods with more traditional Korean ingredients. It was originally invented in the 1950s, right after the Korean War when food was scarce. It was created by folks living nearby to American military bases and made use of the foods they could scrounge from American soldiers. Some typical ingredients include spam, hot dogs, Vienna sausages, American cheese, and even canned baked beans. Over 60 years later, it is still a popular comfort food in Korea and is served at many restaurants. This ramyun variety taps into the popularity of that dish in a convenient instant cup-of-noodles form. The contents are fairly typical (dried noodles and veggies), but with unusual addition of thin slices of sausage. Add water to the fill line and then microwave and then add the powdered soup base afterward and stir. The taste of this ramyun variety was quite spicy with plenty of of Korean chili pepper and other spices. The little sausage slices tasted a bit like pepperoni. It wasn't bad, though all the spice had my lips and tongue numb (as usual). ㅋㅋㅋ My rating: ★★★☆☆

I like the history of the Army Stew, but I can't eat American processed foods. I do like baked beans but never thought of them as a processed food - just a campfire cowboy "Blazing Saddle" type of food.

Lotte Choco Cookie Pepero (롯데 초코 쿠키 빼빼로)Today, I've got another Pepero variety - this time with bits of chocolate cookies in the chocolate covering. I really liked these. They're almost as good as the Almond Pepero I had a while back. I wonder whether the chocolate cookie bits come from the wafers used in their Sand Black cookies. They certainly taste that way. My rating: ★★★★☆

Samyang Curry Hot Chicken Flavor Ramen (삼양 커리 불닭볶음면)Today's ramen variety can be considered a true Asian fusion dish - Indian curry, Korean buldak (hot & spicy chicken), and Japanese ramen in a stir-fry dish. You boil the dried ramen noodles and separate packet of veggie flakes, then drain most of the water. The mix in the sauce and stir-fry the noodles for about 30 seconds. The ample portion easy serves 2. Well, it certainly comes as no surprise that this dish was very spicy. Between the curry and the buldak flavors it is definitely not for anyone afraid of hot and spicy dishes. I must have drank a quart of liquids to quench the burn of this one. ㅋㅋㅋMy rating: ★★★☆☆
