It's about time I updated this.   The Japanese word of the day for January 20, 2016 is... Umbrella - 傘 - かさRomanization: kah-sah It's important that you remember to put stress on the first syllable... otherwise, instead of saying: I have an umbrella. 傘が持っています。 Kasa ga motte imasu. ...you'll end up saying: I have syphilis.* 瘡が持っています。 Ka sa ga motte imasu. Just putting that out there.  *The more common word for the ailment is baidoku (梅毒) - nevertheless, proper stress placement is still important! |

It's important that you remember to put stress on the first syllable... otherwise, instead of saying:

...you'll end up saying:

Romanization: kuukou (koo-koh)
My advice for trying to pronounce double vowels like these is to imagine there's a nasal 'n' at the end of each syllable, just don't say the 'n' aloud.
Also, the kanji for airport is literally "air" and "port".
