Lee Sun Kyun, star of the award-winning movie Parasite, was found dead in a car today.
On December 27, the Seoul Seongbuk Police Station reported that they had found an unconscious man inside a parked car in Seoul's Waryong Park. They had gone to the site after receiving an emergency call from a woman who said her husband had left the house after writing what appeared to be a suicide note.
Later that morning, the police confirmed reports that the man in question was Lee Sun Kyun by stating, "His identity has been confirmed."
The police are also said to have found evidence of lit charcoal briquettes inside Lee Sun Kyun's car, further suggesting that his death may have been a suicide.
Since this past October, Lee Sun Kyun had been under investigation by the police on charges of illegal drug use.
Since his debut in 2000, Lee Sun Kyun starred in numerous films and TV dramas. He is best known for his roles in the thriller Helpless (2012), the rom-com All About My Wife (2012), the crime/black comedy A Hard Day (2014), and Parasite (2019).
Lee Sun Kyun was 48.
