So I was watching a show last night on SyFy, The Magicians (yeah, I do watch shows other than KDramas from time to time) and surprisingly hallyu crept into the episode. The young magicians were in trouble (as always) and they were told to seek the assistance of a mudang (Korean shaman). The next thing we know, they are at a Korean butcher shop in NYC requesting help. Two Korean ladies (the mudang) start arguing in Korean about what to do and the one walks away disgusted. Later, our magicians are attacked by a mysterious invisible monster, which is later identified as a dokkaebi (a Korean goblin). As it turned out the disgruntled mudang had sicked it on them - better to kill them - problem solved! Now, a show like The Magicians is full of mythology gathered from all over the world, so it shouldn't be all that surprising that they eventually would use some Korean mythology, but they weren't done with the hallyu connection just yet... In order to pay the mudang, the young magicians decide to rob a bank for the gold bars. One of the crew uses an enchanted miniature mirror ball as a distraction to the guards. It rolls into the room, the lights go out and suddenly a disco strobe light starts. Cue the music - none other than 2NE1's "I Am The Best"! Naega jeil jal naga! LOL

Fritz is The Magicians on netflix ? Not sure. I don't have Netflix streaming service anymore, but they might have the first season. This episode was Ep. 7 of the current, second season, which aired a few weeks ago. I watched it on cable On-Demand. It's got commercials, but if I wait a couple weeks, it has way fewer ads than watching it when it airs on TV (I simply can't stand the seemly endless ads on regular TV). It's a pretty entertaining show - kind of a cross between Harry Potter and Narnia, but much more mature (ie. sex/language) than either.
