If you want to say something more along the lines of "insect" rather than "bug", you would say 昆虫 (konchuu - kohn-chuu)... it sounds a little more scientific than mushi.

If you're wondering, those long pillows with full-body anime characters are called 抱き枕 (dakimakura - dah-kee-mah-koo-rah)... literally, a "hugging pillow".
