I grinned so hard watching this that I think I cracked my face! lol
What I love about it is the bird is pitch perfect and the pianist is just playing chord backup without melody. The bird already knows the melody by heart!

Maybe the insult "bird brain" shouldn't be used anymore. With some people it might actually be a compliment!

Yay! I got my CD soundtrack for Chuno (aka The Slave Hunters) today. What fantastic music, very similar to an Ennio Morricone soundtrack, some of the pieces could be from a spaghetti western movie Once Upon A Time In The West. They're that kind of style. Everyone raves about this OST on Amazon, so I'm in good company.
I'll share two MP3s with you. I won't have them online forever, so download while you can.
The main instrumental love theme (there are others) features a Chinese instrument called an erhu playing the melody. I love the sound of it. It's a two string instrument with a long neck and a barrel shaped body. Very distinctive.

I've been listening to more erhu music today, just love the sound. Lots on YouTube, mostly Asian sounding music. But here is a young girl taking a stab at playing a piece from Bizet's opera Carmen. I got a kick out of how fast she plays!
This young lady gives you some background on the instrument and how it represents the voice of the people. Because she plays a lot slower than the girl playing Carmen you can see better how the instrument is played and how it is supposed to sound.

You hear that instrument in nearly every Chinese period drama. There is also the very similar Korean Haegeum (해금), which appears in a lot of sageuk. A song from the Dong Yi OST featuring a haegeum: A fan-made video from Dong Yi, showing her playing the haegeum.

Both instruments seem to have originated from its precursor the Chinese instrument Xiqin which was created in the 8th century in China.
An article on Wiki says this about the Korean version of the instrument.
"The way the haegeum is played changed dramatically since the Joseon Dynasty. In the past, musicians plucked the string as it was tuned, but since that time they have begun pulling the string while they play it to express sound in many ways."
So the way the instruments were really played back then -- and how they were constructed, with different materials than the originals -- are quite different from what we hear today in the TV shows we watch and the way it is played in modern orchestras.

I pulled my old CD for Anne Of Green Gables out of mothballs in my walk in closet and listened to it for the first time in years, just to honor the passing of Jonathan's Gilbert Blythe. Oh, the heart aches thinking of those beautiful shows Anne of Green Gables and Anne of Avonlea. Best TV series Canada ever produced.
