It's the same thing with the 1910s 20s 30s 40s 50s 60s 70s 80s 90s and on. The style of music in each decade, and the audio quality of the recordings, basically pinpoint when it came out. If you REALLY think about that it's kind of mind-blowing! (so maybe we shouldn't think too hard about that!). lol

Amazing. Even if you hadn't said it was from the late 1960's I would have known immediately from the sound of the music that it was. Isn't it amazing how we can hear a popular song and immediately identify which era it came from? Yes, that has 1968 written all over it from the first note, the instrumentation, sound quality, vocal inflection, everything. And this particular group reminds me somewhat of the Mamas & the Papas. Good sound. You're right about each decade each having such an identifiable sound—except beginning the 90's, it's less distinctive for me.

I was in the DJ scene in the early 90s, so I'm quite familiar with the styles of the time. Play a song from that period (even one I've never heard before) and chances are I can guess +/- a year by the sound. The styles changed a lot in a very short period of time. The big difference in the 90s were that there were a lot more divergent styles going on at the same time than earlier eras. There are even more now.

The divergent styles might explain why I have trouble identifying the "sound" of the 90's. I guess it's more like the "sounds" of the 90's?

Two things I noticed emerging in "sounds" of the 90's: (1) male voices got gruffer and meaner; always sounded as though they'd just awakened and had a cigarette or four - voices such as the lead, Scott Stapp, in "Creed" - and, believe it or not, I actually like many of the songs sung by "Creed"! (2) female voices got more and more high-schoolish in sound - and have remained so - small, youngish girl voices that have little timbre and sound like spoiled brats out for a brawl... Don't flame me for my view; just an opinion... And, yes, I think Lady Gaga has mucho talent...as does Pink...

The music aficionado have coined terms to describe the various styles that just leave you scratching your head. What's the difference between Alternative Rock, Indie Rock, Shoegaze, Post-Punk, Leftfield, Lo-Fi, and Emo???

Back in my youth we used to call this "garage band sound"; of course, there were bands literally recording in their garages in those days! Names such as Gary "US" Bonds; remember him?

After a long time I am re-listening to my 2 CD set for the OST to 49 Days (2011) my third favorite K-drama after Nine: Nine Time Travels and I'm Sorry, I Love You. (I really need to buy the CD OST for Nine!).
An haunting love song is played sometimes in the OST for 49 Days called Nothing Happened. I made an MP3 for the simple piano version, and here's a YouTube video with the vocal piece.

I'm listening to the 1990s Tintin animated series soundtrack. I loved the comics as a kid (and I still do), and one of the things I loved about the series was its music - memorable, especially the opening theme.
And here's the full version of the theme:

I used to love reading the Tintin comics, too! I used to read them in the old Children's Digest magazine. I've actually never seen the animated version. You're right, that is nice music.
