Watch It
Maybe you know Carl Theodore Dreyer. But have you ever watched this film? except for Mari, others were unknown at that time. But they were good acting. The Mari reminds me of Mary Pickford.

I had been meaning to watch this for awhile, and finally got around to viewing it. It is a most enjoyable film. Hildur Carlberg as Dame Margarete and Einar Röd as Sofren were both good, as was Greta Almroth as Mari. The plot kept you guessing as to what direction things were going to go in, and the ending turned out to be unexpectedly poignant. The scenery was very nice, also. I liked the depiction of the small Norwegian village; the sense of place was very strong in the settings, costume, and countryside. Thanks for bringing this one to my attention, Norma.

When I click on it the actual title of the film is The Parson's Widow. Nothing about a Satanic witch. Why did the uploader change it?

'The Witch Woman' is a subtitle. The old widow in the film can be a witch because Sofren was bewitched by her strange medicine. But not Satanic.

The Bible declares sorcery as a sin. Sin = Satanic.

The title is a little confusing. The original is Prästänkan, which means "Priest's Widow." Apparently "The Witch Woman" got to be an alternate title (maybe when the film was released for English-speaking audiences?). "The Parson's Widow" is probably the best English title. There is a brief part of the film where it is implied that Dame Margarete could have put a supernatural spell on Sofren, though this is left somewhat ambiguous, as he was also intoxicated at the time.

The title Parson's Widow seems familiar to me, I think I watched this film many years ago but really don't remember it anymore. Not too surprising after over 250 Korean dramas in between. LOL.

Dame Margarete is a mysterious character—I think that's what makes the movie interesting. The actress underplays the role in such a way that you're never quite sure what her motivations or intentions may be.
