More students are expected to wear school uniforms sporting designs inspired by Hanbok (traditional Korean attire). The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism held a ceremony on January 16 for the Hanbok industry with the Hanbok Advancement Center under the Korea Craft and Design Foundation at the Novotel Ambassador Seoul Dongdaemun Hotel. One of their projects is promoting Hanbok-inspired school uniforms. The center said around ten schools have adopted such uniforms including Korean Minjok Leadership Academy, which is known for its modern-style Hanbok uniforms. Through a contest they jointly held last year, the ministry and the Ministry of Education developed uniform designs inspired by Hanbok. This year, both ministries will support the distribution of Hanbok uniforms after selecting the schools wishing to adopt such designs through a related contest. The ministry will seek to gradually increase the number of schools adopting such attire.
