Samyang PaGaejang (삼양 파듬뿍 육개장 파개장)Today I've got yet another ramen soup variety, which combines green onions and yukgaejang ( 육개장), a traditional Korean spicy beef soup. Preparation is fairly straight forward. You add the soup base packet to 550ml of boiling water, then add the ramen noodles. Boil for 4-1/2 minute. After removing the pot from the heat, you add the liquid sauce and finally the contents of the veggie packet, which is mostly green onions. I added a few carrots and additional fresh green onions as well. Here's a instructional promo video for the product: In the video they also add fresh beef to it as well, though I didn't follow that option. The soup was quite flavorful, but very spicy (that sauce packet looked like pure gochujang - hot chili pepper sauce). As usual with offerings like this, my lips and tongue went numb. My rating: ★★★☆☆

Orion Choco Pie Chocolate Chip (오리온 초코파이 초코칩)Today I've got another take on the classic Choco Pie, this time with chocolate chips added. These are pretty similar to the Lotte originals, though the chocolate chips do add a bit more chocolate to the equation (certainly not a bad thing). The marshmallow cream filling was also better than the original Lotte version. My rating: ★★★★☆

Orion I-sho Candy (오리온 아이셔 캔디)
Like really sour things? Then this chewy sour apple candy is probably for you. I admit I'm not a huge fan of sour stuff, so the first bite into these is startlingly harsh (as expected), but once that initial blast of sourness subsides, they are not too bad. My rating: ★★★☆☆

Samyang Light Soybean Paste Ramen (삼양 담백한 된장라면)Today's ramen flavor features doenjang ( 된장), fermented soybean paste, a staple ingredient in traditional Korean cuisine. Preparation is quite simple. Add the contents of the powdered soup packet to 550ml of water and bring to a boil. Then add the dried ramen and cook for 3 minutes. Done! I topped it with some common ingredients you would typically find in doenjang jjigae ( 된장찌개), soybean paste stew, including tofu, fresh zucchini, scallions, and mushrooms. I quite liked this meal. It was a bit spicy, but not overly so and had a nice flavor overall. After eating most of the noodles and veggies, I even finished off all the soup, which is something I can't ever do with the really spicy offerings. I'd be happy to eat this one again. My rating: ★★★★☆

Lotte Koala's March Strawberry (롯데 코알라마치 딸기)These cute little strawberry creamed-filled cookies actually originally came from Lotte in Japan, but are sold in Korea and throughout world, with a portion of the profits supporting the Australian Koala Foundation conservation group. There are a huge variety of koala characters printed on the cookies, no doubt to entertain kids. The cookies themselves aren't especially remarkable. The outer cookie reminds me of fortune cookies. The cream filling tastes a bit like strawberry jelly. My rating: ★★★☆☆

Assi Strawberry Flavored Ice Bar (아씨 부드러운 딸기바)With summertime and warmer weather, we often turn to frozen snacks. Well, Koreans do too. So, how about some Korean frozen treats (courtesy of my local Korean grocer)? Today, I've got a strawberry-flavored popsicle. While it doesn't look all that exciting, this simple cool treat is quite flavorful and refreshing. Everything one would want on a hot summer day. My rating: ★★★★☆

Samyang Chacharoni (삼양 짜짜로니)
Today's ramen variety is similar to the soybean paste ramen I had a while back, but without the soup. I added some tofu, fresh zucchini, peas, carrots, and scallions to liven it up a bit. The flavor is similar to the various black bean varieties I've had before. My rating: ★★★☆☆

Assi Musk Melon Flavored Ice Bar (아씨 메론바)Just in time for the first real heatwave of the season, I've got another frozen treat - this time a musk melon flavored popsicle. Like the strawberry one I had before, this flavor is also quite flavorful and refreshing. I don't know about anyone else, but melon flavor just reminds me of summertime. My rating: ★★★★☆

Haitai Myeongnana Mayo (해태 명란 마요맛)
At first glance, these potato chips look like ordinary potato chips, but they are actually mayonnaise flavored. I wasn't sure what to expect from these chips; they are just a bit tangy and surprisingly good. They would certainly go well with your favorite sandwich. My rating: ★★★★☆

Samyang Kimchi Ramen (삼양 김치라면)
Today I've got another kimchi ramen variety, similar to one I had a while back. Clearly designed for folks on the go, this one is very simple to prepare - just add boiling water and the powder packet and let sit for about 3 minutes. The noodles are thinner than typical stove-top varieties, so they don't need quite as long to soften. I added some fresh peas and carrots to liven it up a bit. While there was nothing particularly special or remarkable about this "instant" variety, it wasn't bad at all. It was tangy, but not overly so. The very easy prep makes it a good choice for a quick snack or lunch on the go. I'd be happy to eat it again. My rating: ★★★★☆

Ottogi Stir-Fry Jin Jjambbong Ramen (오뚜기 볶음진짬뽕 라면)
Today I've got a instant stir-fry variety of jjamppong ( 짬뽕), a very popular spicy seafood dish. Preparation is fairly straight forward. You bring 500ml of water to a boil, add the vegetable packet and ramen, and cook for 4 minutes. Then, drain most of the water and add two sauce packets, stir well, and serve. Well, "spicy" is the operative word for this dish. The sauce is very spicy with loads of garlic and gochujang (chili pepper sauce). My lips and tongue went quite numb (as usual). Fans of really hot stuff will probably like this more than I did. It was just way too hot for my taste. My rating: ★★☆☆☆

Dongwon Milk N Funny Straw - Banana Flavor (동원 밀크앤퍼니스트르우 바나나맛)
Historically Koreans are not big milk drinkers (like all Asians, they are lactose intollerant), but that hasn't stopped them from trying to get their kids to drink milk for the health benefits. To that end, they have come up with some rather unusual gimmicks, like these wacky straws that have banana-flavored beads inside them that dissolve while drinking, making plain ordinary milk taste like banana milk. The flavor will last for a pretty good size glass of milk. My rating: ★★★☆☆

Ottogi Kok-Kok-Kok! Ramen Bokki (오뚜기 콕콕콕 라면 볶이)
This snack is basically a cup noodles version of Tteokbokki (Spicy Rice Cake), one of the most popular street foods in Korea. Prep is simple; sprinkle the contents of the veggie packet over the dried noodles and add 200ml of boiling water. Wait for 4 minutes, drain, then added the hot sauce and stir. As with any Korean dish seasoned mainly with gochujang, it's pretty spicy. So, keep your favorite cool beverage handy. My rating: ★★★☆☆
